Well, now you’ll have the chance to find out!

On November 9, one of Weisser Hirsch’s historic villas will open its doors exclusively for RCDI. The owner Tobias Michatsch will share the fascinating history of the house and take us on a personal tour, giving us a rare glimpse into the villa’s interiors and its story.

Dear Fellow Rotarians and Friends

Six years of Rotary Club Dresden-International - a great reason to celebrate! We warmly invite you to join us for our 6th Charter Anniversary on Monday, November 23, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Gewandhaus Hotel Dresden.

We will welcome a guest speaker from Global Vision Internations (In Germany also known under the name: EinDollarBrille), an inspiring initiative that is making a real difference in the lives of people around the world.
Founded in Germany by Martin Aufmuth, the organization has developed a simple yet ingenious way to bring affordable eyeglasses to people who otherwise have little or no access to vision care. Using a specially designed, manually operated machine, trained local workers can produce durable spectacle frames at a material cost of around one US dollar per pair.

But this initiative is about much more than glasses. By training local people to manufacture and sell spectacles, it creates jobs, supports small businesses, and helps communities become more self-sufficient. Combined with basic vision screening and referrals for more serious eye conditions, the project enables people to see better, learn more effectively, and improve their opportunities in life.

By 2025, the initiative had helped more than one million people gain access to proper vision correction and was operating in 11 countries across Africa, Asia, and South America. In addition the organization performed over 17k cataract operations.

This is a wonderful example of how a simple idea, combined with innovation, entrepreneurship, and social commitment, can have a profound and lasting impact. The project also resonates strongly with Rotary's commitment to humanitarian service and sustainable community development.

Dear Rotarian friends, dear guests,

How can we bring people into conversation who might otherwise never meet? And how can these encounters strengthen democracy?

On Monday, November 30, at 6:00 PM, we are delighted to welcome Kristina Krömer, founder of metro_polis and Ashoka Fellow, to our club evening at Gewandhaus Dresden.

With metro_polis, Kristina brings democratic participation to an unexpected place: public trams. Her initiative creates opportunities for people from different backgrounds to meet, exchange perspectives, and discuss the issues shaping our society. What began as a conversation project has evolved into a "Democracy Council on Wheels", making civic participation part of everyday life.

Join us for an inspiring evening exploring social cohesion, innovative approaches to civic engagement, and the power of dialogue in an increasingly polarized world.
